A voter approved $1B Proposition funding the redevelopment of The Oakland Army base in Oakland, California was approved earlier this week. The project, aptly names ‘The Oakland Army Base Project’ (OAB) will transform the former Army base into a world-class trade and logistics center. The port, which currently handles 99 percent of all containerized goods in Northern California, is the leading export gateway on the U.S. West Coast, according to a recent story released by Logistics Management. Supporting over 70,000 jobs locally and nearly 1 million across the country, the new project will surely impact the U.S. strategy to strengthen the Ports’ significance in the global trade market while ensuring that Oakland maintain a significant role in global trade.
